Events

What are Events and do I need them?
SchoolDESX offers a place for a User to enter all of your school’s Events, such as holidays, in-service days, conferences, meetings, etc. Each of these Events is a scheduled activity in SchoolDESX and might be thought of as the school’s calendar. A User can record all functions, school deadlines, non-school days, holidays and more as well as reserve rooms in your building(s) and other school resources for specific dates and times. The information entered into the Events form automatically displays that Event on the school’s Master Calendar.

Classes cannot begin to be scheduled until we have certain Events entered into the system. This is because certain Events dictate whether or not the school is even open for Classes on specific dates, such as holidays. By making sure that necessary Events are recorded into SchoolDESX before Classes are created, at least for this upcoming Term, we can make sure to mark the proper dates as “No Class Dates”, therefore dictating that SchoolDESX will not schedule Class meeting time/days over those Events.

How do I make sure that I don't schedule Classes on Holidays, In-service Days, etc.?
No Classes is a checkbox item on the Events Information form. This field dictated whether or not this particular Event will keep Classes from being scheduled on that day/during the scheduled time. For example, I have a Class that will meet from Aug. 1, 2006 to Dec. 1, 2006. Thanksgiving Break falls on Nov. 23, 2006 and the school will also be closed on Nov. 24, 2006 as well. My Events form will then have a record put in place that will be named “Thanksgiving Break” and will be scheduled for Nov. 23rd - Nov. 24th. For this Event, the “No Classes” checkbox is checked so that when I go to schedule a Class with a start date of Aug. 1st and an end date of Dec. 1st , both Nov. 23rd and 24th, will not be scheduled as actual Class meeting days.
